New Elementary School to Open
on Sammamish Plateau
ISSAQUAH, Wash. – October 30,
2002 – Sammamish Christian School and Noah’s Ark Preschool today
announced its plans to open the first Christian elementary school on
the Sammamish Plateau. The elementary school will open in September of
2003 and will primarily service the communities of Issaquah,
Sammamish, and Redmond.
Originally founded in 1996, Noah’s Ark
Christian Preschool and Kindergarten has served as one of the largest
and most reputable pre-elementary schools in the state of Washington.
In response to hundreds of requests from families in the local
community, the School Board voted in the spring of 2002 to expand to
include grades one through five and change its name to Sammamish
Christian School and Noah’s Ark Preschool.
The expanded school will begin with first through third
grades, housed within its current facility on the Trinity Lutheran
College Campus, in September of 2003. The following school year will
include grades one through four. The final stage of expansion, in
September 2005, is the offering of all elementary classes through
grade five.
“We are building a school that provides
strong academics coinciding with Christian values and character
development,” said Jennifer Bohner, Director of School. “I feel
blessed to participate in building the first Christian elementary
school on the Plateau that is answering the prayers of so many people
in our area.”
A meeting to inform the public of the
school’s expansion plans will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday,
November 12, 2002, in the Cascade Auditorium at Trinity Lutheran
College in Issaquah. The enrollment process for the 2003 school year
will begin on November 13, 2002.
According to the 2001 King County Annual
Growth Report, the Sammamish area alone has the highest density of
school-aged children per family in the entire country, with 54.5% of
households including people under the age of 18. With the expansion to
Sammamish Christian School and Noah’s Ark Preschool, the parents of
elementary school-aged children in the area will gain the opportunity
to send their children to a local school that focuses on academic
excellence in addition to building a positive Christian value
structure.
“I am so pleased Sammamish Christian
School is offering first through third grades
next fall. The other Christian schools available in our area are not
conveniently located and are often overcrowded or have so many
applicants, the odds of being accepted are very low,” said Francine
Haman, a current parent and resident of Redmond. “Our community needs
a school where our children can receive a quality education and also
learn about God. Our community needs Sammamish Christian School.”
The mission of Sammamish Christian
School and Noah’s Ark Preschool is to provide a well-rounded,
Christ-centered education that emphasizes the development of the whole
child for the glory of God. The school community, in partnership with
each student’s family, is committed to the academic excellence and
spiritual growth of each student. Noah’s Ark is accredited by the
National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and
is located in Issaquah, Washington. Additional information can be
