SCSNA Students
Perform at Early Learning Leadership Luncheon
ISSAQUAH, Wash. –
October
28, 2003 - Sammamish Christian School and Noah’s Ark Preschool’s
pre-kindergarten students performed songs at the first annual Early
Learning Leadership Luncheon held by the Foundation for Early
Learning. Among the approximate 500 guests, the luncheon was attended
by Washington’s First Lady Mona Locke, Chair of the Foundation, as
well as by Washington Governor Gary Locke, and by local philanthropist
Melinda Gates.
The
Foundation for Early Learning was established in April 2000 to build
on the work of the Governor's Commission on Early Learning, which was
convened by Washington Governor Gary Locke in 1998. The Commission was
co-chaired by First Lady Mona Locke and Melinda Gates. The mission of
the foundation is to support the profound learning children experience
from birth through age five. The foundation’s strategic program
investments build community-wide early learning systems across the
state of Washington.
The
luncheon’s keynote speaker, Former North Carolina Governor James Hunt,
helped establish Smart Start in North Carolina, for which he received
the Children’s Defense Fund Award. Smart Start is a nationally
recognized award-winning early childhood public/private initiative
designed to ensure that young children enter school healthy and ready
to succeed.
Sammamish Christian School & Noah’s Ark Preschool students
were asked to perform to demonstrate that music can be a great
organizer that helps a child’s body and mind work together. The
school’s involvement with the foundation’s great cause, including the
school directors serving on the foundation’s advisory board, is one of
many examples of how Sammamish Christian School & Noah’s Ark Preschool
shows excellence and leadership in the field of early childhood
development and education.

Congratulations to those children! They sang loud and strong and
enjoyed themselves. And, they got their pictures taken with Governor
Locke, Mrs. Locke, and Kathi Goertzen of KOMO 4 News.
